CrochetHi all, I hope that you are doing well?
Today I would like to share a crochet project with you, the first in a while actually. I have really been enjoying crocheting and I am very glad I stuck to my New Years resolution from 2013 and taught myself this skill. I highly recommend it. I find it comes in particularly useful when I am having a bad back day as I can sit in my comfy high backed chair, with my heated therapy blanket AND still craft lol!!
So, back to the project. I wanted to make a crochet blanket as a gift for my Mum, for her Birthday. I started my choosing the colours that I wanted to use and picking the initial starting pattern. I also knew that I wanted the blanket to be more large throw sized, really snuggly and comfy cosy 🙂
I decided on the above colours as they co-ordinate with the colours in my parents living room: I knew that that was where the throw could be used the most. I also chose an easy care, (and easy clean!), Acrylic blend yarn as I also knew that the throw would be slept upon, by my folks dog Jess!
For the starting point I decided that I wanted to use a ‘Granny Square’. However I knew that I wanted to keep the design simple and modern. I chose therefore to keep building up the layers onto the one centre granny square which would create a striped effect:
as I had decided to use just the three colours for a modern look, I decided to use a variety of crochet stitches for added texture and interest – not only for the finished throw but for myself whilst I was making it lol!
Crochet Stitches used:
- Left Grey : U.S Treble /U.K Double Treble
- Left Red : U.S Treble /U.K Double Treble
- White : U.S Double x 1 row/U.K Treble x 1 row
- Right Red : US Double x 1 row/U.K Treble x 1 row
- Right Grey: U.S Double x 1 row/U.K Treble x 1
Elsewhere on the piece I used U.S Single Crochet/U.K Double Crochet, as well as the crochet stitches above. I used a 5mm metric crochet needle which is a U.S size 8/H; Canadian /U.K size 6.
To finish the throw I added a White (U.S)Double Crochet /(U.K) Treble crochet edge, plus the care instructions loosely pinned on:
I hope that you have enjoyed this crochet share,
take Care and Happy Crafting !!
